Thursday, September 22

Staging Area – Utah-Arizona Border on River Road

08:30 Depart from staging area for Bar-10 Ranch via 1063, 110 miles

Lunch from backpack at Butch Cassidy Cabin

15:00 Arrive at Bar-10 Ranch

NOTE: Arizona is not on Daylight Savings Time

AFTERNOON

Ride down to Whitmore Canyon Overlook (11 miles) overlooking lower Grand Canyon Gorge and maybe take another excursion to Pa’s Pocket before returning to Bar-10 Ranch.

Friday, September 23

BREAKFAST 07:30 Bar-10 Ranch

MORNING RIDES –

Parashant Canyon/Copper Mountain Mine (71 miles) – Semi-Difficult

Leaving Bar-10 Ranch, take Trial Canyon Road via 1063 and 1230, (13 miles) to Trail Head. Trail Head to Copper Mountain Mine (20 miles). Return via Bundyville (38 miles).

Toroweap (87 miles) – Moderate

Leaving Bar-10 Ranch, ride over to Mt. Trumbull, 8,028′, passing over Mt. Logan, 7,700′, take 1064 for stop at Hell’s Hole Overlook, and on to vista-view of Valley at end of road through wilderness area. Option: visit Indian petroglyphs at Nampaweap (2 mile round trip). At Mt. Trumbull Ranger Station, travel by Tuweep and on to Toroweap Overlook. With longest drops of anywhere else in the park at Toroweap Point, look 2,500 ft. straight down on Lava Falls, one of worst rapids in Grand Canyon.

Frog Springs (36 miles) – Moderate

Travel from Bar-10 Ranch on Whitmore Canyon Overlook road 1045 exiting to the right onto 1247. Ride out to view of Parashant Canyon.

LUNCH 14:00 Bar-10 Ranch

AFTERNOON RIDE – Pa’s Pocket and Red Mountain Overlook

Pa’s Pocket, small dam built by father of Atwood Bundy. Ride over to Red Mountain Overlook and witness spectacular view of Colorado River.

DINNER 19:00 Bar-10 Ranch

 

Saturday, September 24

BREAKFAST 07:30 Bar-10 Ranch

08:30 Depart for St. George (110 miles) via Whitmore Point and Parashant Canyon

Overlook (Sack lunch from Bar-10 Ranch)

Take turn-off to Mesa and 1063 trail to Parashant Canyon view, then to Whitmore Point Overlook. Ride a short distance back to Parashant Canyon Overlook. Travel on 1063 to Parashant Canyon road and on to staging area.

Hell’s Hole Overlook, Valley Overlook, Frog Springs, Pa’s Pocket, Parashant Canyon Overlook, Parashant Canyon and abandoned Copper Mountain mine, Nampaweap Petroglyphs, Shivwits Plateau, Toroweep Point, 5,102′ and Lava Falls Rapids, Whitmore Point Overlook, Whitmore Canyon Overlook

Lodging

After confirming with ride leader, you must make an advanced reservation at Bar-10 Ranch (435-628-4010) with Sara Christensen for two days of lodging. The cost is approximately $245 for two nights and three days including breakfast, dinner, and two lunches. The lodge has individual, covered-wagon accommodations, bunk-bed style rooms, and hot showers.

Route traveling by vehicle from Bloomington via River Road & Main Street Valley Road

Bar-10 Ranch – 65 miles from Bloomington

Take Bloomington exit off freeway and travel east to River Road. Travel south to airport road overpass and beginning of dirt road called Main Street Valley Road. Travel 52 miles south through Arizona Strip to Bundyville passing Quail Draw, Seegmiller Mountain, and Wolf Hole Valley. At Bundyville intersection with historic Mt. Trumbull Schoolhouse Museum, continue south 13 miles to Bar-10 Ranch.
